Fall bucket list ideas: Enjoy the magic of Autumn!

autumn bucket list

I don’t know about you, but I love sweater weather.

The second the mornings turn cooler and I smell that first pumpkin spice latte, I’m ready to romanticize the entire season.

Fall feels like a fresh start and a time to slow down, add a little magic to everyday life, and make things extra special.

That’s why I always make a fall bucket list.

If I don’t, the weeks fly by and suddenly it’s the holidays.

Having a simple fall to do list keeps me intentional about enjoying all the things to do in the fall — from baking and decorating to road trips and cozy nights in.

This post is full of fun fall activities, cozy autumn activities, and plenty of fall inspo you can use to create your own autumn bucket list.

Whether you want simple moments at home or adventures outdoors, these ideas will help you enjoy every bit of the season.

Fall Bucket List Classics

Go Apple Picking

Apple picking is such a classic autumn bucket list item.

It’s a fun excuse to get outside and support local farms.

Plus, you leave with bags of fresh apples perfect for baking pies, muffins, or even homemade cider.

Visit a Pumpkin Patch

No fall to do list is complete without a trip to the pumpkin patch.

Whether you grab one pumpkin for your porch or load a wagon for decorating, pumpkins make everything feel festive.

Explore a Corn Maze

Corn mazes are the ultimate fun fall activities.

You can get lost with friends or family, laugh at the dead ends, and usually enjoy extras like hayrides, cider stands, or farm games.

Cozy Fall Evenings

Host a Bonfire Night

Gather some blankets, set up a fire pit, and roast marshmallows under the stars.

Add hot cocoa or cider and you have the perfect fall evening. One of my favorite ways of making memories with my family!

Fall Movie Night

Fall movie nights are the coziest, and there are so many good options beyond the classics.

Here’s a mix of cozy, nostalgic, romantic, and spooky titles you can sprinkle into your fall bucket list movie section:

Halloween & Spooky Fun

  • Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)

  • Casper (1995)

  • Beetlejuice (1988)

  • The Addams Family (1991)

  • Coraline (2009)

  • Monster House (2006)

Cozy & Romantic Fall Vibes

  • When Harry Met Sally (1989) – Central Park fall leaves!

  • Runaway Bride (1999) – small-town cozy vibes

  • Sweet Home Alabama (2002) – comfort movie energy

  • Autumn in New York (2000) – romantic and very fall aesthetic

  • Julie & Julia (2009) – cozy kitchens, French food, and autumn feels

Football Season Favorites

  • Friday Night Lights (2004)

  • Varsity Blues (1999)

  • Little Giants (1994)

  • The Blind Side (2009)

Family-Friendly Fall Nights

  • Charlie Brown and the Great Pumpkin (1966)

  • Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009) – cozy autumn palette

  • Hotel Transylvania (2012)

Just Plain Cozy

  • Stepmom (1998) – family, cozy sweaters, fall scenery

  • Dead Poets Society (1989) – New England autumn atmosphere

  • Good Will Hunting (1997) – Boston in the fall

  • October Sky (1999) – small-town fall feels

Outdoor Fall Adventures

Take a Scenic Drive

Grab a coffee, make a playlist, and head out for a short drive.

Even 30 minutes on a tree-lined road gives you all the autumn activities vibes you need.

Bike Ride or Long Walk

Cooler weather makes biking or long walks way more enjoyable.

I like to bring a thermos of hot cider for a little stop along the way.

Visit a Farm

A farm visit can check off several things to do in the fall all at once: hayrides, animals, pumpkin picking, and maybe fresh donuts or kettle corn.

Go to a Fall Festival

Fall festivals are one of my favorite autumn activities because they bring the whole season together in one place.

You’ll usually find live music, food trucks, games, and plenty of craft vendors.

Some even have pie-eating contests or chili cook-offs.

Add this to your fall bucket list if you love the energy of community events.

It’s also one of the best fun fall activities for families since there’s something for everyone.

Fall Fun at Home

Bake Fall Treats

Fall baking always makes me feel cozy. Try this simple recipe for pumpkin muffins:

Pumpkin Muffins (makes 12)

  • 1 cup canned pumpkin

  • 2 eggs

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup oil

  • 1 ½ cups flour

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice

  • 1 tsp baking soda

  • ½ tsp salt

Mix everything, scoop into a muffin tin, and bake at 350°F for 20 minutes. That’s it — your kitchen smells like fall in no time.

Decorate for the Season

It doesn’t take much to cozy up your home.

Add a wreath to the front door, place a few pumpkins on your table, or light a fall-scented candle.

I love using wicker baskets, wood accents, and greenery for simple autumn activities that make the house feel inviting.

Host a Friendsgiving

Friendsgiving is such a fun tradition to add to your fall bucket list.

Keep it potluck style so you’re not stressed, and focus on good food, laughter, and maybe a gratitude jar where everyone can write notes of thanks.

Try a DIY Project

Crafting is one of my favorite fun fall activities at home. Some easy DIYs:

  • Paint mini pumpkins

  • Make a kraft paper banner with a fall saying

  • Create a simple wreath with greenery and ribbon

Take Family Photos in the Fall Scenery

The season is basically made for photos, so why not take advantage?

The golden leaves, cozy outfits, and warm light make the perfect backdrop.

Even if you don’t hire a professional, grab your phone and set up a mini shoot with friends or family.

Matching plaid, boots, and scarves are optional but always cute.

Add this to your fall to do list and you’ll have cozy memories to look back on long after the season ends.

Giving Back in the Fall

Volunteer or Donate

Fall is a season of gratitude, which makes it a great time to give back.

Add a volunteer shift at your local pantry, donate coats, or put together care packages for neighbors.

It’s one of the most meaningful autumn activities you can do.
